As 2022 comes to an end and the New Year is due to begin, it is only human to take stock of your life.  Questions such as, did you achieve what you were hoping for in your professional and personal life and whether your family and friends are happy and well. There is another issue that is literally staring at you in the mirror…. whether you should you go ahead with the cosmetic procedure that you have been considering to make yourself look and feel better.

If you are considering cosmetic surgery in the New Year, you are not alone. The Aesthetic Society figures published in April 2022, show that in 2021 cosmetic surgery procedures on the body, including tummy tucks, buttock augmentation, boob jobs (breast lifts, breast augmentation and breast reductions) and liposuction increased by 63% on the previous year. The top three cosmetic surgery operations carried out in the USA in 2012 were liposuction (491,098), boob jobs (364, 753) and tummy tucks (242,939). Facial cosmetic surgery procedures including facelifts, browlifts were hot on the heels with a 54% increase.

SO, WHAT WILL THE MOST POPULAR COSMETIC PROCEDURES BE IN 2023?

One of Marbella’s best cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Pietro di Mauro, has provided a list of the aesthetic procedures that will be most frequently carried out over the next 12 months.

1. BODY CONTOURING – LIPOSUCTION

As reported by the Aesthetic Society, liposuction is the most commonly requested procedure.  The Journal of American Medical Association explains that the reason that it is so popular in the USA is because on average each American gained at least two pounds during lockdown.

This situation isn’t unique to the US, it is the same situation around the world. In fact, liposuction procedures in Marbella crept up to the top of the list in 2022 and we expect body sculpting to remain in pole position throughout 2023.

In addition to the traditional liposuction, Lipo Vaser as carried out by Dr.di Mauro in his Marbella clinic, will continue to grow in traction as this cutting edge ultra sound technology allows for more precise fat removal, reducing pain and swelling and speeding up recovery.

2.MALE COSMETIC SURGERY

Which brings us on to male cosmetic surgery….although not spoken about as openly, there is increased awareness and demand for cosmetic surgery amongst men. Male liposuction is also expected to grow in popularity throughout 2023, such as removing “love handles” and back fat to provide a more lithe and toned physique.

Plastic surgery operations such as gynecomastia (male breast reduction) are becoming more high profile. Dr. di Mauro explained that there is now less stigma attached to the surgery allowing men to openly explore their options and to undergo the procedure.

Perceived ageism also plays a part for many men, especially when working in predominantly young industries such as technology. There is pressure to keep up and also to look fresh, alert and healthy, if not necessarily younger. This means that more and more males are turning to injectables, eyelifts, jaw and neck lifts in order to compete in an increasingly cutthroat environment. 3.RHINOPLASTY

Nose jobs or to use the technical term rhinoplasty increased by 67% in 2020 which has been attributed to the shock of staring at our faces at close quarters on Zoom. The trend is expected to continue throughout 2023, with ultrasonic rhinoplasty procedures remaining the most popular method of rhinoplasty in Marbella. The procedure is carried out using the high frequency vibrations for better results and less downtime. Find out more here.

4. BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast augmentation has been the original go-to cosmetic surgery procedure for many years. There are a number of reasons why the procedures are requested, such as lack of symmetry, breast reconstruction after a mastectomy and of course to increase the size, shape or volume.

The desired appearance of the breast changes from decade to decade, from the 1980s Pamela Anderson, through to the more natural 1990s, which means that remedial work is also requested.

There are a number of routes to achieving the desired breast using both silicone and saline implants, depending upon the surgeon’s recommendations.
