BREAST LIFT
BEAUTY COMES IN ALL SHAPES
A breast lift, or mastopexy as it’s also known, works to reshape and uplift sagging breasts. There are different reasons for sagging breasts, such as hormonal changes, breastfeeding and weight loss. You may find breasts have lost their volume and shape as you age. Surgery can lift the breasts into a more natural position and restore volume.
THE PROCESS
Breast lift surgery is carried out under general anaesthesia and the length of the surgery is approximately three hours. The surgeon will make a few incisions, which will fall under the three common incision types: around the areola, around the areola to vertically down from the nipple and then horizontally under the breast. The surgeon will then lift and reshape the underlying breast tissue. The nipple and areola will be repositioned, and the areola may be reshaped. Any excess skin will be removed to regain elasticity.
After the incisions are closed with stitches, the remaining skin will be tightened. If you also want your breast to look smaller or fuller, it is possible to combine the breast lift with an augmentation or reduction.
After a breast lift surgery, you will need to stay overnight at the clinic. Your breasts will be covered with bandages or gauze dressing and there may be some drainage tubes in place, which will be removed once your surgeon is satisfied with your progress. You will be given medication for any discomfort and antibiotics to avoid infections.
Dr. di Mauro and his team will be on-hand to talk you through every aspect of the surgery, aftercare and your expected results.

THE PROCESS
THE CONSULTATION
The initial consultation will assess suitability for surgery and, if patients decide to go ahead, they will be told about possible risks and side effects associated with a breast lift. Patients consult with their surgeon as to whether they want implants too.
THE SURGERY
Surgery takes approximately three hours and patients recover over night at our clinic. Patients are closely monitored, as with any breast surgery, and a post-surgery recovery plan is created.
POST SURGERY RECOVERY
As with any breast surgery, patients must be very careful to avoid any impact to the chest and to avoid heavy lifting for a number of weeks. Patients with small children may need extra help during recovery time. Patients will have appointments with their surgeon and any minor adjustments to the nipple position can be made.
AFTERCARE
Following your breast lift surgery, you will need to wear a post-surgical bra, 24-hours a day to support and protect your new breasts. Recovery typically takes around 4-6 weeks and you can usually return to work a week or two after the surgery, depending on the nature of your work. Every patient is different, all of your concerns will be addressed by Dr. di Mauro’s team and you will receive a follow-up plan suited your specific needs.
Before you leave the clinic, we will give you information and advice on how to make the best recovery and an emergency phone number that you can call any time of the day. A week or two later you should make an appointment with your surgeon to check on your recovery and stitches.
We advise our patients to take it easy when they get home; plenty of rest, drinking plenty of water and eating well to fully recover.
